Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, is set to visit India to formally open its first stores in the country: one in Mumbai, the financial and political capital, on 18 April, and the other in Delhi, the country's capital, on 20 April. These stores have a long history of development, since India's strict rules stipulate that global brands cannot open their own brand outlets unless a significant portion of the merchandise is produced in India. With India being the world's second-largest smartphone market and among the fastest-growing, Apple is betting on India for a growth market and manufacturing base.
