
Japan's privacy regulator has instructed Microsoft-backed AI start-up OpenAI not to collect sensitive data without people's permission. Japan is the third-largest source of traffic to OpenAI's website, and CEO Sam Altman recently met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss the company's expansion in the country. Regulators worldwide are drafting rules to govern generative AI and the European Union is believed to be working on the first set of such laws.
