Saudi Arabia will mandate the adoption of USB Type-C as the universal charging port for all electronic gadgets from January 1, 2025, starting with mobile phones, tablets, and laptops from April 1, 2026. The move is part of an initiative to ensure high-quality charging and data transfer technology, improve the user experience, and reduce electronic waste. The mandate is set to save Saudi consumers SAR 170m ($45.3m) annually and will reduce domestic consumption of the charging equipment by 2.2 million units, thereby contributing to the kingdom's environmental goals.
