How this US city is using Apple AirTags to stop car theft

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is offering Apple AirTags to residents in an effort to reduce car theft. The program will distribute the tracking devices to residents in car theft-prone neighborhoods, allowing them to use Apple's Find My technology to locate stolen vehicles. The AirTags will be given out at events where the city's police force will help residents install and register them on their phones. The initiative was inspired by a similar program led by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Motor vehicle theft in Washington DC has increased by 101% this year.
